Joan Font
Spanish director Joan Font makes his COC debut with La Cenerentola. He is the founder of Els Comediants (1971), a Spanish artists’ collective formed by actors, musicians and artists, and he has participated in the creation of more than 30 stage productions spread over five continents including projects for Féstival d’Avignon, Venice’s Biennale and the closing ceremonies of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympic games. Increasingly, he has turned his attention to the operatic stage with productions of The Magic Flute (Gran Teatre del Liceu), Orfeo ed Euridice (Peralada Festival) and the COC’s production of La Cenerentola which has already played to great success at Welsh National Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu and Grand Théâtre de Genève. In 2009 Mr. Font directed the premiere of Leonardo Balada’s Faust-Bal and L’Italiana in Algeri both for Teatro Real Madrid, the latter a co-production with Houston Grand Opera, Opéra national de Bordeaux and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. 2010 saw him directing a new production of The Magic Flute for Murcia, Spain.
