Elizabeth DeShong


American mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong returns to the COC as Angelina in La Cenerentola, having made her debut in 2009 as Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This season she was heard as Hermia with Lyric Opera of Chicago and made her London debut as Maffio Orsini in English National Opera’s new production of Lucrezia Borgia. This summer, she will sing the Kitchen Girl in Rusalka in her return to Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Next season, Ms DeShong will return to San Francisco Opera as Maffio Orsini and will be featured as Hermia in the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of The Enchanted Island. Recent credits include Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel with Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos for Washington National Opera, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly for Santa Fe Opera, and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Arizona Opera. On the concert stage, Ms DeShong has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and sang Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with John Nelson and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, a performance which will be released on DVD.
