Join us for our final week of the Free Concert Series 2012!

It's the final week of the COC's Free Concert Series before we break for the holidays and it features a collection of music from a variety of genres and influences. Come to all three of the performances to experience something new or re-discover familiar favourites.

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 - 12 p.m. - Artists of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra - Creative Explorations

In this noon-hour concert, the TSO Adopt-A-Player musicians and volunteers premiere a jointly composed work based on their experiences of being artist-educators. Inspired by Spanish music, the musicians and volunteers present variations on Spanish sounds, themes and rhythms, introducing the audience to some of the techniques used during the creative process. Blurring the lines between music and theatre, this performance is a fun and fascinating insight into the process of creative composition.

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 - 5:30 p.m. - Alex Pangman and her Alleycats - The Night is Cold but the Music's Hot

Performing songs from her much-lauded album 33, Alex Pangman "has all the vivacity and steppin' out glee of the Jazz Age" (Toronto Life). This Justin Time recording artist may take her cues from the great songstresses of the 1930s and 40s, but she's living proof of the vitality and relevance this music still holds in today's world. Canada's sweetheart of swing will be joined by her longtime quartet, "The Alleycats." Watch Alex's video, "Hummin' to Myself," below and follow her on Twitter.

Thursday, December 13, 2012 - 12 p.m. - Jeng Yi Korean Drumming Ensemble - Drums, Strings and Ribbons

Korean drum and dance ensemble Jeng Yi is joined by zither player Joo Hyung Kim in a dynamic program featuring traditional rhythms and original compositions that breathe new life into Korean traditions. The troupe will also perform their highly-anticipated ribbon hat dance! Watch a video of the group performing at the Korean Food Expo in 2010 below, and follow the group on Facebook.

These concerts fill up quickly, so be sure to arrive early to get a seat!

The COC's Free Concert Series returns the first week of January with artists from our Ensemble Studio performing works by Mozart and Salieri. See you in the new year!
