Up & Coming!

This course offers opera lovers in-depth preparation of operas the COC will be staging, as well as performances elsewhere, during the 2012/2013 season.  Attendees will comparedifferent interpretations by famous artists and see the action more closely through the eyes of different directors. A detailed synopsis of each opera is provided.

Classes tend to sell out early and are limited to a maximum of 50 individuals. To guarantee your place, full payment must be received with registration. Exchanges and cancellations must be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance. All dates, times and course content are subject to change without notice.

    Video presentation from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, compared with scenes from the Metropolitan Opera.

  • October 2 & 9: MOZART (1756 — 1791) La clemenza di Tito
    Video presentation from Opéra national de Paris compared with scenes from the Glyndebourne Festival.

  • October 16, 23, & 30, November 6 & 13: WAGNER (1813 — 1883) Tristan und Isolde
    Libretto and video presentation from the Glyndebourne Festival.


Winter Session 2013

  • January 8, 15, 22: DONIZETTI (1797 — 1848) Lucia di Lammermoor
    A comparison with Lucie de Lammermoor from the Opéra National de Lyon and a survey of Donizetti’s romantic heroines in their great moments on stage, including  Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, Linda di Chamounix, La Favorita, Roberto Devereux, and Lucrezia Borgia.

  • January 29 & February 5: R. STRAUSS (1864 — 1949) Salome 
    Video presentation from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, compared with scenes from the Metropolitan Opera and Vienna State Opera.

  • February 12, 19 & 26: POULENC (1899 — 1963) Dialogues des Carmélites 
    Video presentations from Opéra national du Rhin and Staatsoper Hamburg, as well as a survey of the vocal and choral music of Francis Poulenc.
