Rufus Wainwright will Headline Operanation 8: A Muse Ball

The Canadian Opera Company’s annual fundraising bash returns this year on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, with Operanation 8: A Muse Ball, featuring internationally-renowned singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright. Affectionately referred to by Elton John as “the greatest songwriter on the planet” and praised by the New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation; his own singular sound transcending the worlds of rock, opera, theatre, dance and film. Rufus Wainwright will headline the music line-up for Operanation 8, the must-attend arts fundraiser of the fall social season, which will also showcase performances by other artists to be announced at a later date.

Operanation 8: A Muse Ball will be a celebration of artistic inspiration and the mix-and-mingle of art and life, taking place in the ideal setting of the crystalline Isadore and Rosalie Sharp City Room at the COC’s Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The magical night of dancing, live entertainment and specialty food and drink will represent the ultimate source of inspiration, the muse, calling to mind muses from the worlds of music, art and fashion.

Operanation 8: A Muse Ball will begin at 9 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2011. Tickets go on sale Sept. 1 and are $150 per person. Tickets for the party portion of Operanation 8 are available as of Sept. 1, 2011, online at coc.ca or by calling COC Ticket Services at 416-363-8231.  VIP dinner tickets may be purchased by calling 416-306-2309.  All proceeds will benefit the COC Ensemble Studio, Canada’s premier training program for young opera professionals.
